You are God's Dream

Lindi Marais

Throughout scripture, we see God’s greatest desire is for relationship with you and me. Not a relationship based on obligation, or tradition but a truly intimate and authentic relationship. This desire reveals the heart of God towards us, one of desire, pursuit, delight, love and purpose.

In a world that is starving for authentic intimate relationships- I think it’s safe to say that our greatest desire aligns with God’s.
Now if the title of this article made you raise an eyebrow in doubt, allow me to challenge your picture of our heavenly Father. In preparing for this article I found my image ofAs we learn who God has created us to be, we represent him even more authentically to those around us. God’s ultimate dream of

our Father challenged and so I’d like to share that testimony and hopefully, it is received by a soft heart. I’ve been a believer for many years and my grasp of God loving me unconditionally is quite settled. However, when I saw the title of the article, I thought, “I’m not so sure I agree with that”. I am loved, chosen, and set apart, yes, but am I really God’s dream? This questioning led me to find the evidence in scripture as we always should and I humbly say, we are absolutely God’s dream.

In fact, we are not only God’s dream but His creations. He actioned that dream and created us perfectly in his image. He created us to walk in the garden with Him, in unity, completely vulnerable and safe within our relationship with Him. The Garden of Eden imagery paints the reality of God’s dream- relationship with us. And when we decided to hide, He came
looking for us.

We are God’s dream because he pursues us
We can be confident that we are God’s dream because he pursues us. In Ezekiel 34:11 it says “‘For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will search and find my sheep. I will be like a shepherd looking for his scattered flock. I will find my sheep and rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on that dark and cloudy day.” Our Lord has pursued us, He has longed to be in relationship with us and desires our attention and delight.

We are God’s dream because he delights in us
God didn’t create us out of necessity but out of desire. Our God delights in us. Psalm 37:23- 24 says “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand”. As God’s dream, we are delighted in. We are held, protected and guided as we live the lives God has called us to.

We are God’s dream because he sacrificed for us
Most importantly, we can rest in knowing that we are God’s dreams because he has sacrificed for us. John 3:16 says “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” When God’s dream of intimate relationship with every one of us was destroyed by sin, he paid an unbelievably difficult price and sacrificed his son for us. This was the only way to restore our relationship with God, and it is only because of this sacrifice that we can live in intimate unity with God today.

If you have not made the decision to walk with God like that, you should do so today. Allow God to restore his dream in you by accepting Jesus as your Lord and asking him to Forgive you for your sins. Romans 10:9 says “   If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” This is good news!

Knowing that we are God’s dream, gives us purpose, confidence, and peace and it should motivate us to share this news! As God’s dream, we should be operators of his will on Earth. As it says in Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

We have been dreamed of, created and given purpose, as we walk out our intimate authentic relationship with our Father God. As we learn who God has created us to be, we represent him even more authentically to those around us. God’s ultimate dream of
relationship has been restored in believers, but He is still pursuing those that don’t yet believe, and his sacrifice still stands.
